Angry Birds for Android Devices

As an American tourist who clearly didn’t know any better, I found myself last February on a train in England during the end-of-the-day rush hour. At standing room only, I was crowded into an isle with numerous other travelers, everyone trying to figure out the least awkward object to stare at as we grappled with the strange intimacy of public transportation.

I ended up looking at a man’s cell phone screen, watching him play a rather heated round of a video game. When I asked him what it was, he shook his head and said, “I don’t know – but it’s damned addicting!”

It turns out that the game in question was Rovio Mobile’s mega-hit sensation Angry Birds, and he’s not the only one who has been sucked in; at four million active users logging in over 3.33 million hours of gameplay per day, the game is one of the most successful apps in the history of smart phone development.

Not that you need a smart phone to play. After Angry Birds’ overwhelming initial success on the Apple iOS system in 2009, the game is now available for the Android smart phone system (among other smart phone options), Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PSP, Play Station 3, and Google Chrome. Rovio’s latest adaptation, still in development for the moment, is for the extremely popular social networking service Facebook.

So what exactly is all this hype about? The premise of Angry Birds is fairly straightforward: players control a set of irate avians attempting to retrieve a series of eggs, which have been stolen from them by a group of green pigs.

(Still with me so far?) To do this, the birds are fired at the pigs and the structures the pigs hide behind by a slingshot. The aim of each level is to defeat all the pigs before the player runs out of birds. As more levels are unlocked, different colored birds become available for game play – the various colors correspond with different special abilities.

Similarly, pigs vary in their difficulty to defeat based upon what they’re wearing: pigs with crowns can sustain the most damage, though you also should watch out for pigs sporting helmets and armor! The pigs’ structures also change over time, making them easier or more difficult to destroy.

Can’t get enough of Angry Birds? Never fear: Rovio has that covered, too, offering various add- ons to the original game for download as well as special editions, such as Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Season. And for those with serious Angry Bird fever, keep an eye out: rumor has it there’s even a feature-length film in the works.

Angry Birds for Android : How to Get 3-Star Rating Easily

Many Android users have been chugging along playing Rovio’s title the Angry Bird, but they just can’t seem to get the 3-star rating easily. The rating is determined by the amount of points you get in a level. Unlike the popular misconception, you don’t always get 3-star rating when you finish the level using only one bird, although each extra bird would be useful, because they worth 10,000 points each. In many levels, it’s perfectly possible repeat one-shot kill every time, but it can still be a pain to earn the 3-star rating.

Although points from unused birds are counted as well, in some cases, you may use up all the birds but can still get a 3-star rating. Your goal shouldn’t be to use the least amount of birds but to cause as much as destruction as possible.

These are a few facts to consider when you seek to get 3-star rating in a level:

Brush up your shooting skill: This is the most essential skill in the game. Open a level, you don’t need to finish it yet, just try to shoot using different elevation angles. After a few dozens of tries, you should be able to shoot with decent accuracy.

Target horizontal supports beam: In many levels, horizontal supports beams are your key in getting a 3-star rating. Hit them with the right amount force at the right spot to get the best effect. This is a good shortcut to avoid using up all the birds to finish a stage, while still causing enough damages.

Use extreme angles: It is often a good idea to use extreme angles whether it’s an upward angel or a horizontal angle. This especially true for black birds and white birds, as you often need to use their explosive powers on gaps between structures. You should also use upward angle when using blue birds with its scattershot ability as you can attack multiple pigs from above. You need to have a perfect timing when using an extreme angle, decide when you should release the egg bomb or activate the scattershot ability. Make sure the egg bomb falls between the structures or on weak spots, on the other hand, you should split blue birds when they are one-third or half way down to allow them build enough momentum before hitting the target.

Try to roll the birds: Many skilled Angry Birds players roll the birds, especially the yellow one; to kill multiple pigs are on hard, level surface. This technique can also clear out any leftover objects, giving you some extra points. You shouldn’t do this if there are hard objects around, such as stone blocks, as they can easily stop the rolling bird on its track. Make sure you use a shallow angle just slightly off being parallel to the ground and decide when you should boost the speed of the yellow bird, to let the bird bounces like a skipping stone; this way, the bird can travel far and hit multiple objects. Use the same technique to topple a tall structure that has a weak base.

Don’t rush it!: Observe the structure after you hit it. Some parts of the building may shift slowly as they seek a new balance; this also goes for the rolling pigs. If you wait for awhile, sometimes, further damages can happen and a few pigs are smashed. Once the dust settles and nothing is moving, search for a new weak spot on the damaged structure.
